About Us

Njinga [Pronounced En-jing-Ga]

Njinga means bicycle (two wheeled power machine) in Chechewa, the local language of Malawi where co-founder Togo was born

Njinga. Pronounced En-Jing-Ga. It means bicycle in Chichewa, the local Malawian dialect.

Co-Founder Togo Keynes was born there. Along with his partner and co-founder Leigh Rogers it means much more. At first glance Njinga is a cycling training and performance centre, if you look a little closer you can see that it is something greater.

At the heart of it all is a sense of community, a desire to help others feel better, healthier, happier. Wellbeing is the message, cycling is simply the chosen medium.

Njinga might deal in watts, speed and cadence – lots of data, but it is the riders who really matter.

Starting in 2012, Njinga has expanded from organising outdoor cycling training and events for big organisations to opening a state-of-the-art indoor training centre in the cycling hotspot of Kingston upon Thames in 2015. Thousands of riders have worked with co-founders Togo and Leigh. They have tackled many different challenges from weight loss and health issues to conquering epic cycling events like London to Paris and L’Etape du Tour. The toughest tests have come in the form of the Njinga Challenge Series, yearly events that inspire riders to go beyond their limits, be it traversing the Pyrenees in a week, with more than 11,000m of climbing or becoming a member of the iconic club Cinglés du Mont-Ventoux, achieving the triple climb of the legendary Mont Ventoux in one day.

Over the years Njinga has come to mean different things to different people.

For some the Njinga Lab is a place to come and train hard, to push themselves, finding their physical limits and being motivated and inspired to go beyond them, becoming fitter and healthier. Others come in for the technical advice and pointers, from bike handling to nutrition, race tactics to bespoke training programmes and much more, the staff have become like an extended family, always there with a word of advice or willing to lend a hand. Some see it as a place to meet up with their friends before heading out on a group ride, making connections that last beyond the schedule of classes and group ride outs, friendships that will last a lifetime.

All levels of rider are made to feel equally at home, from the new rider to the elite international athlete, Njinga proudly provides a training and support structure to help everybody improve.

Training on the wattbike and with the team at Njinga has undoubtedly helped me to take my performance to a whole new level. I’ve learned to train efficiently and effectively. Trying to fit training around a full time job and a busy life is always challenging, but the Njinga classes are a great way to guarantee a quality work out in a short space of time. There are simply no wasted or junk miles and you can make the absolute most of the training time you have available.
